Acciona Welcomes New Employees to the Atlanta (USA) Office

On Monday September 15th, ACCIONA held a team breakfast to welcome employees to its new office in Atlanta,  USA.

During the breakfast, Constanza González-Gordon, the Infrastructure division’s Human Resources director, gave a welcoming speech. Carlos Planelles, the Infrastructure division’s North American director, shared his vision of the U.S. market and ACCIONA’s opportunities in the United States with the team. He also reviewed the division’s current operations, including those in the bidding phase, under execution, and under concession.

The company’s presence in the United States has grown significantly in recent months, and it currently employs more than 650 people, over 60 of whom are located in Atlanta.

ACCIONA entered the United States in 2008 when it was awarded the Tampa Bay desalination plant in Florida, which supplies water to 2.5 million people. In 2021, ACCIONA was awarded its first public-private partnership project: the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion Channel in North Dakota and Minnesota. This project will protect over 235,000 people from potential catastrophic flooding caused by the Red River.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) recently selected a consortium of ACCIONA, Plenary Americas, and Sacyr to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the bridge over the Calcasieu River for 50 years. The bridge is part of the Interstate Highway (I-10) in Louisiana and will link the towns of Lake Charles and Westlake over a nine-kilometer span. The $3.1 billion (€2.85 billion) project will replace the existing bridge, which is over 70 years old. A joint venture between ACCIONA (50%) and Sacyr (50%) will execute the project, which involves reconstructing six lanes of the interstate highway, building several additional structures, implementing a free-flow toll system, and eliminating the existing bridge.

ACCIONA Energy owns the Red-Tailed Hawk photovoltaic plant, which is located near Houston in Wharton County, Texas. With a capacity of 458MWp, it is the largest solar complex that the company has built to date. Additionally, it is building the Union Solar PV plant (325MWp) in Ohio. The Red-Tailed Hawk plant joins ACCIONA Energy’s portfolio of renewable energy projects in North America. ACCIONA Energy has a total of 2.7 GW installed in the region and is a key player in the country’s energy transition.

ACCIONA Culture was also selected to carry out projects at two iconic cultural institutions in New York City: the National Museum of Immigration at Ellis Island and the Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx.
